CTAF Meeting, Oct. 17, 2012

1

Dear Colleagues,

On Wednesday, October 17,  the California Technology Assessment Forum (www.CTAF.org) heard written and verbal testimony regarding proton beam therapy for prostate cancer.

The California Urological Association (CUA) was called upon and provided critical expert testimony in this regard.

Dr Matthew Cooperberg (UCSF) took time to personally attend this meeting on behalf of the CUA to provide verbal and written analysis of the literature (click to see attachment).

Dr. Robert Eisenberg (CUA Representative to CTAF) and Dr. Eugene Rhee (CUA President) provided verbal testimony as well.

CTAF voted unanimously that proton beam did NOT meet criteria 4 or 5 for safety and efficacy AND improvement in health outcomes.

Please note there were a plethora of our radiation oncology colleagues in attendance and some from as far away as Texas.
