California Urological Association  Leader and Public Servant

CUA Past President Vito Imbasciani, MD, a full-time practicing urologist with the Southern California Permanente Medical Group in Los Angeles and the State Surgeon of the California Army National Guard became the first person to announce his candidacy to succeed Ted Lieu’s 26th Senate District seat.  Imbasciani represents urologists in the state to provide access to health care by protecting MICRA.  He has served as the CUA president from 2003-05 and as representative for scientific affairs at the California Medical Association since 2005.  Imbasciani, 57, has 28 years’ service as an officer of the U.S. Army Medical Corps and is a veteran of two wars, with active-duty tours in Desert Storm and Iraq.

The CUA supports Imbasciani as a knowledgeable physician representative in the senate. Many have often complained that we have no one to represent us in Sacramento. We can change that and finally have a voice in the legislative arena.

MICRA puts a cap on non-economic damages keeps malpractice rates in California affordable, ensuring access to care for millions of Californians and keeping doors of providers open to the public. Any increase to the cap would jeopardize these resources and, as such, CUA remains committed to defending the law.
